And it’s Friday again. Wow that was fast. Life is indeed slipping away but don’t look so glum about it. It’ll all feel better with a soundtrack. My selection for this week is a difficult one. I’m tempted to say Arcade Fire for a third time and risk looking like a maniac but alas I havn’t the guts.

So it’s got to be PVT (formerly Pivot who had to change their name because of a legal battle with a band of the same name). This track of thier dark and moving new album is the standout soundtrack to my life slipping away. Emo.

So this week, thanks to a friend reminding me of Millencolin’s ‘no cigar’, and all this talk of the general year 2000 vibe to reading, i have been revisiting Epitaph’s PUNK O RAMA SERIES.

As wiki describes it -
Punk-O-Rama was the title given to a series of ten compilation albums published by Epitaph Records between 1994 and 2005. The first volume was released in 1994, the second in 1996, and the rest annually from 1998 to 2005. The albums included artists from Epitaph’s roster as well as from its subsidiary label ANTI- and its partnership labels Hellcat Records and Burning Heart Records. In total the series included 257 songs contributed by 88 different artists.
the whole series is pretty consistent…so many hidden gems and a few stinkers but what do expect the series is almost 10 years long.
its been powering me through all the css ive been buried in this week and it cant help but make you smile.

So while looking on the excellent BOOOOOOOM i came across this episode of  film maker, Lance bangs‘ documentary series, BANGS.

Its pretty inspiring seeing someone just making for the sheer love of making. plus guitar skateboard!? YES!

Lance Bangs wiki : Lance Bangs (born September 8, 1972) is an American filmmaker, documentarian, and music video director who has created videos for Sonic YouthNirvanaGreen Day, the Arcade Fire, the ShinsThe ThermalsBelle & SebastianMenomenaYeah Yeah YeahsR.E.M.,Mike WattDeath Cab for CutieThe Black KeysKanye West, and Pavement. He directed the David Cross film Let America Laugh.

I really like his documentary style… super relaxed, funny, natural and wonderfully observed. it runs through his music videos aswell.

Im sure most of you will have seen some of his work somewhere. If not have a nice afternoon of looking thorugh his pretty extensive website: http://www.lancebangs.com/

Hot off the press is this Illustration for BBC worldwide magazine, about the language Esperanto and its creator Zamenhof. The polish City of Bialystok has even started a ‘Esperanto Trail’ which is available in English and polish..im sure the irony isnt lost on them.

Off to see Inception tonight…wayyyy too excited!

My entry today -
This version is as close as I can find to the performance of Of Montreal in the beautiful short film ‘I’m Here’ by Spike Jonze.
I rode along the canals today to this track and it had me in a fixated stare into another world. Such a driving bass line and powerful performance.
See the live performance HERE.

I Bought this album last month ( i think) and havent really stopped listening to it! A differant beaste to thier last (‘59 sound) but no less breath taking. Big guitars, super engaging hooks, and brilliant story telling from Fallons raspy vocals. Just wonderful. Got to see them a few weeks back and they have stepped up their live show. Stadium fillers for sures.

possibly for a new zine thats out soon (possibly). Couldnt resist posting some new typework…

Really nice insight to the myspace secret show posters process from the guys at Vahalla.

once again wonderful work from Micah Smith. I alsready own a couple ofhis prints. Might be time for some more..
